Veterinarian, Owner

Few people can find a career that allows them to work with their passion. I consider myself one of the lucky ones! I wanted to be a veterinarian from a very young age, and everyone knew it. Now, after almost 20 years of practicing small animal veterinary medicine, I’ve seen a lot of complicated, interesting, crazy, cool, patient concerns while getting to bond with clients and pet families. These bonds, and the trust instilled in our care have allowed me to keep my passion alive.

I opened West Ballantyne Animal Hospital over 10 years ago with the goal of providing quality medicine in a relaxed, friendly environment where clients can trust the care provided. It has been an uphill battle to start a new business without clients or patients, but we persisted in becoming a trusted, integral part of our local community. (If you look closely, many of the veterinary hospitals have been acquired by corporate entities which take the passion, continuity, and personal feeling out of the care provided.)

Many people think animals are not very good at communicating their concerns. On the other hand, I feel once you are fluent in their language and listen closely to their whispers – they actually tell you a great deal! Professionally, some of my specialties include behavior and training, allergy/dermatology concerns, dentistry, soft tissue surgery and pain management.

I received my B.S. degree in Biology from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania in 2002. I earned my DVM degree from Ross University in 2006, after finishing my clinical year at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. One of my veterinary school highlights was traveling to South Africa for a two-week wildlife veterinary course. I made friends with an emu; microchipped over 50 wild white rhinos, and relocated zebra, wildebeest, and crocodiles. Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime experience! You don’t fully know adrenaline until a rhino charges you in the wild!

I treat my patients as if they were my own pets because I know what an essential part of the family they become. We have had many wonderful pets through the years and currently have 1 dog and 2 cats: Mr Banks, Oscar and Ms Kitty. When not spending time with the 4 leg critters, my husband Travis and I are likely chasing after our 2 small children ensuring they don’t get into trouble! We might be playing with the dog, cooking in the kitchen, swimming in the pool, exploring woods and trails. These days most of our time is kept chasing after our 2 small children – Parker and Emily. It’s the most amazing thing to see them learn, grow and experience all the little things in life – including how integral pets are in our lives.

Jenny Jones, DVM

Veterinarian

From a young age, Dr. Jones knew that becoming a veterinarian was her true calling. After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, she pursued her veterinary education at NC State University, where she not only honed her clinical skills but also dedicated herself to researching pain management and common small animal behavioral issues.

With over a decade of living in Charlotte, Dr. Jones enjoys a fulfilling life with her husband and their two beloved kitties, Jules and Bubbles. When she’s not at the clinic, she can be found rock climbing, creating pottery, or exploring the vibrant local scene of breweries and restaurants.

Dr. Jones is passionate about working at WBAH, where she values the clinic’s commitment to high-quality medicine and its warm, welcoming atmosphere that ensures the best experience for both clients and their pets.
