Canine Wellness Exams

Active preventive care will help your dog stay healthy for a long life of family fun. Preventive care plays a vital role in prevention and early illness detection. Establishing a baseline of health early on allows us to measure changes in your dog over time, enabling us to detect the onset of diseases sooner when treatments are most effective. Our comprehensive preventive care exams for dogs include:

Physical Exams & Vaccinations
Our canine exams include a thorough physical examination that consists of an evaluation of your dog’s coat, skin, eyes, ears, nose, throat, and internal organ systems. Your dog will also receive an individualized vaccination plan at our hospital that caters to his or her needs based on age, breed, physical condition, and lifestyle. For your dog’s safety, we only use adjuvant-free vaccines at our veterinary clinic!

Dental Exams
During the exam, we will perform a thorough oral examination. Our veterinarian will look at the mouth and teeth to ensure overall health and look for any abnormalities, including fractured or missing teeth, tartar, gum health, periodontal disease, ulcers, and masses. For more information about the dental care provided by our veterinarian, please visit our Dental Care page.

Heartworm Disease
Heartworm disease is transmitted through the bite of mosquitoes carrying microfilaria or heartworm larvae. If not prevented, the disease can lead to congestive heart failure when not diagnosed and treated in the early stages. Our veterinarian will perform yearly blood screenings for early heartworm detection and treatment. Our hospital offers many safe options for the continual prevention of heartworm disease.

Parasite Prevention & Control
Intestinal parasites are transmitted when our pets inadvertently ingest parasite eggs or spores in contaminated soil, water, feces, and food. They live in the gastrointestinal tract. They can also spread to humans. Our veterinarian will perform yearly intestinal parasite screenings to ensure your pet is parasite-free. In addition to routine screening and treating infections, our hospital has all your needs to prevent internal and external parasites such as fleas, ticks, and mites.

Nutrition & Weight Management
Cultivating a balanced diet and nutrition plan is also an essential part of preventive care for your dog. During your pet’s wellness exam, we will evaluate your dog’s weight so we can recommend any necessary modifications to their diet or exercise.

Canine Health Consultations
Your dog’s annual exam at West Ballantyne Animal Hospital is also the perfect opportunity to speak with Dr. Linfante or one of his associates about any concerns you may have about your dog’s health. We will discuss topics such as dog vaccines, dental care, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle or age-related changes.
